Enrollment
At NPS, student registration is done electronically through PowerSchool.
Please read the information below carefully to ensure that enrollment is done correctly and in compliance with all applicable State and NPS Board of Education Policies.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION FOR STUDENT ENROLLMENT
An important part of the registration process involves submitting required documentation to NPS before the student attends school. Please be prepared to provide a copy of the student's original birth certificate, proof of residency, and one of the following: consent for NPS to access student's MICR record -OR- other student immunization record documentation. Documents must either be uploaded electronically during step 4 of the registration process, or given directly to the school office prior to the first day of student attendance.
-
Student's original Birth Certificate - A copy of the student's original Birth Certificate with the student's legal name (first, middle, and last) and date of birth listed is required for identification purposes.
PLEASE NOTE: Per the Michigan Missing Children’s Act, MCL 380.1135 of the Revised School Code: School districts must be provided with a copy of the original birth certificate of all pupils upon enrollment. If a copy of the original birth certificate is not available, the parent/guardian may alternatively submit a notarized affidavit with an explanation for the inability to produce an original copy of the birth certificate and provide other acceptable documentation to prove the pupil’s identity. Contact the school office for further information if you are unable to provide a copy of the original birth certificate.
-
Proof of student's residency - The registration process includes determining a student's residency. A copy of a document with a parent/guardian name and street address is required for residency determination. The address listed on the document must match the information that is provided on the student enrollment form.
Examples of acceptable documentation for proof of student's residency: Utility bill, mortgage/rent paperwork, property tax bill, driver's license.
Students who do not reside within the Negaunee District boundary must complete a non-resident application and are subject to section 105 and section 105c of the State School Aid Act.
-
Student Immunizations: The registration process includes providing NPS with the student's immunization record. Parents/guardians have the option to provide NPS with consent* to access the student's MICR record during their NPS enrollment. This option makes it very convenient for parents to fulfill the required documentation component of the registration process, while also providing NPS with accurate student immunization records. Parents/guardians who do not provide consent for NPS to access MICR should be prepared to provide their student's immunization record documentation (see below).
The Michigan Public Health Code requires a parent or legal guardian to have one of the following on file with the school in order for a student to attend school in Michigan:
1. A valid, up-to-date immunization record. Acceptable immunization documentation for school includes:
- An immunization record from a provider Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- An official Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) immunization record - *parent/guardian consent to access MICR will be provided on separate student form
- A state Immunization Information System record.
2. A medical doctor's (MD/DO) signed State of Michigan 2025 Medical Contradiction Form, which states the medical contradiction(s), the vaccines involved, and the time during which the student is not able to get the vaccine(s).
3. A current, certified State of Michigan 2025 Non-medical Immunization Waiver.
All questions regarding immunization waivers should be directed to Ashley Speaker, NPS District Health Coordinator - ashley.speaker@negauneeschools.org or 906-475-7803 ext 142.
